What Most Crypto Funds Won't Tell You

The hard truths we learned from real market cycles

95% of Altcoins Underperform vs Bitcoin

Even quality altcoins like Ethereum, Polkadot, and Avalanche failed to match Bitcoin's returns from bear market lows to cycle peaks.

BTC: ~8x vs Alts: 3-6x avg

Prior Cycle Patterns Broke

Historical frameworks predicted "altseason." It never came. Markets evolve. Strategies must too.

2017-2021 ≠ 2022-2025

We Changed. They Didn't.

Our Prime Funds captured altcoin growth to 190% in Q4 2024 proof our selection worked. But the data revealed a harsh reality: diversification across 9 assets meant winners (SOL 31x, INJ 37x) were diluted by underperformers. We rotated to Bitcoin accumulation strategy.

Now 70-100% Bitcoin allocation

Evidence Driven, Not Narrative Driven

How we evolved our strategy based on real market data

1

Phase 1: Q4 2023-2024

Quality Altcoins outperform post-bear (based on 2017-2021 cycle)

Holdings:

SOL, ETH, DOT, AVAX, NEAR, LINK, INJ, AXS, ADA

Result:

0% peak

Selection worked initially
Rotation never came
2

Phase 2: 2024-Present

Systematic rotation to BTC-dominant

Trigger:

Funds peaked whilst BTC continued to ~8x

New Rule:

Alts must beat BTC over 12-24mo

Alignment with actual market structure

Current Rules Engine

├─Has it beaten BTC from cycle low? → NO = REJECT
├─12-24 month performance vs BTC? → <0% = REJECT
├─Deep liquidity on major venues? → NO = REJECT
├─On-chain activity threshold met? → NO = REJECT
└─All YES? → Watchlist (max 5-15% allocation)

Default Position: 70-100% Bitcoin

The Critical Insight

Injective gained 29x MORE than Bitcoin. Solana gained 23.4x MORE than Bitcoin. Every other asset LOST between 1.8x to 5.5x compared to simply holding Bitcoin.

Notably, Polkadot and Axie Infinity made new cycle lows in 2025, highlighting their extreme weakness. Their earlier fundamentals have faded and not progressed, causing them to lose relevance in a rapidly evolving market.

This data-driven lesson shaped our evolution: Bitcoin-first strategies for 2025. Not ideology - evidence. The market regime shifted, and so did we.

The Brutal Math

The Allocation Reality

Why holding winners wasn't enough to beat concentrated Bitcoin exposure

What Individual Assets Did

Bitcoin

Everything else:

6 other assets2.7x - 6.2x

What Prime Funds Actually Did

Blended Portfolio Return

5.5x gap vs 100% Bitcoin

🤔 Why the gap?

Even though we held the two biggest winners (SOL 31x, INJ 37x), our diversified basket of 9 assets meant:

  • 1
Winners were diluted by allocation percentages - Each asset represented ~11% of the portfolio
  • 2
Underperformers dragged down overall returns - ETH 4.5x, DOT 2.7x, AXS 3x averaged out gains
  • 3
Portfolio averaged out to 190% vs Bitcoin's 8x

The brutal maths:

Diversification across 'quality' alts cost us 5.5x of potential Bitcoin gains.

9-Asset Portfolio

Even with SOL + INJ

100% Bitcoin

+176% more gains

💡

Key Insight

This is why our new funds are 70-100% Bitcoin. Even picking the RIGHT alts (we had SOL and INJ) doesn't beat concentrated Bitcoin exposure when 7 out of 9 underperform.

Not ideology. Evidence. The market taught us, and we adapted.

The Lesson:

These funds validated our selection process (quality altcoins, rigorous methodology) but revealed the regime shift: even well-chosen alts failed to sustain performance vs Bitcoin's ~8x from Q4 2023 lows to October 2025 peak. This is WHY we evolved to Bitcoin-first for future products.
